These inner landscapes are compositions of intense color stained into raw canvas, bounded by white borders which at times barely seem to restrain the expansive imagery. The Lichtblitz (Light of Lightning) Series deals essentially with a particular quality of light: the intense lightning flash which illuminates a portion of an otherwise dark field. These are not literal paintings, but rather like the flash of poetic intuition, a distillation of essence.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBorn in Los Angeles, Nancy Hodgson Moeller studied painting at the University of Southern California, where she was the recipient of two scholarships and a national fellowship for creative arts. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate and earned Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, living in Chicago; Washington; Pittsburgh; New York; Barcelona, Spain; and Hannover, Germany.
